University Cup

The University Cup is a sports tournament organised by the Sports Development Centre in collaboration with the UEM University Students’ Association (AEU), held in celebration of International Students’ Day.   

The tournament forms part of the A-CDDEF and AEU’s activity plan, offering a way to diversify extracurricular and cultural activities within the context of the 17 November celebrations, International Students’ Day. It also contributes to socialisation and interaction between UEM students and those from other invited institutions.

 Time and Venue

The University Cup takes place from late October to 17 November each year and features basketball, football, futsal, volleyball and chess competitions for both men and women. On 17 November, there is a march through the streets of Maputo, followed by the finals of the various sports and, finally, an awards ceremony for the winners.

The program takes place at the University main Campus in Maputo, where, in addition to the faculties and schools based in Maputo, other invited institutions also participate, attracting around 600 participants to the tournament and around 1,500 participants march on Student Day.
