Industrial, Security and Environmental Studies Centre (CEISA)

The Industrial, Safety and Environmental Studies Centre, known as CEISA, is an organic unit of the Eduardo Mondlane University. Established in 1997, the Centre is dedicated to scientific research, extension and provision of services in Occupational Health and Safety and Environment. CEISA serves as an interface between UEM and the Government, the Private Sector and the Community in Occupational Health and Safety and the Environment.

Mission

CEISA pursues the following activities:

• Carrying out scientific research, extension and providing specialized services in Occupational Health, Safety and Environment;
• Support teaching, organizing scientific events and running short courses for the Centre’s technical staff and employees.
• The Centre operates across the country together with its employees and partners to ensure a sustainable development of the country.

Objectives

The Objectives of the Centre are as per the following:

• Carry out extension activities and provide specialized services to UEM, the Government and the Private Sector in Occupational Health, Safety and Environment issues;
• Ensure that staff and graduates acquire the necessary knowledge to comply with international standards and norms on OHS and environment.
• Promote and encourage scientific research, study the applications of science and technology in the field of Occupational Health, Safety and Environment;
• Establishment of cultural, scientific and technological exchange relations with national and foreign institutions in the areas of OHS and Environment.
• Disseminate scientific knowledge, technology transfer including OHS and environment research results to the society;
• Run short courses in Occupational, Health, Safety and Environment;
• Provide assistance in teaching activities of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the areas of OHS and Environment;
• Promote UEM’s relationship with national productive sector in the fields of OHS and Environment.
