The Academic Development Centre (CDA) is part of the Faculty of Education whose primary mission is to train lecturers working at Eduardo Mondlane University and other higher education institutions in teaching methodologies, as well as providing academic support to students. It was prompted by the institutionalisation of STADEP (Staff Development Program) – a cooperative programme between Eduardo Mondlane University and the University of Gröningen (Netherlands) aiming at pedagogical training UEM teachers.
Following the reopening of the Faculty of Education in 2000, STADEP became known as Academic Development Centre (CDA) which is an integral part of the Faculty of Education (FACED). In order to respond to teachers and students´ needs including UEM’s Strategic Plan, CDA added the following components to the courses that were previously offered:
Following the recommendations of the reflection study undertaken, both training on the job in a Continuous basis as well as a Professional Development Plan 2012-15 were established. The plan was developed so as to identify psycho-pedagogical training needs of UEM teachers and its partners (HEI) Higher Educations Institutions. Such plan consists of 14 modules, including the implementation strategies.
The new training philosophy for higher education teachers presented by this plan provides for a system of certification and accreditation, established in the Regulation of the National Qualification Framework for Higher Education (2010), vocational and short term courses including the System regarding academic credits accumulation and transfer (2010).
