Gender Affairs Coordination Centre (CeCAGe)

The UEM Gender Affairs Coordination Centre (CeCAGe) is an organic unit of Eduardo Mondlane University, established by the UEM University Council through resolution no. 5/CUN/2008 of the 8th May 2008. This unit is dedicated to gender issues encompassing activities coordination in terms of research, training and the provision of services to Eduardo Mondlane University and the community on gender issues. Its operations are backed by regulations approved by the University Council and other applicable legislation.

CeCAGe is headquartered in Maputo City and operates across the provinces where UEM has faculties and colleges, through gender focal points in each UEM organic unit.  

CeCAGe’s activities

  • In the area of training – CeCAGe promotes and holds courses and seminars aimed at training the university community on gender issues, including the dissemination of national and international instruments such as conventions on gender issues, women’s economic empowerment, gender planning and budgeting and life skills.
  • In the area of research – CeCAGe develops studies and projects on topics such as violence against women, women’s economic empowerment, gender-sensitive pedagogical practices, among others.
  • In the area of service provision – CeCAGe has a Psychosocial Care and Counseling Office in place, which is geared towards assisting the university community (teachers, technical and administrative staff, students) and their families with psychosocial problems.

CeCAGe Services

The Office offers the following services:

  • psychological counseling;
  • Academic and social stress;
  • assistance for students with special educational needs and disabilities;
  • family therapy.
